Understanding how these systems archetypes occur and their effects in an organization will help the management make informed decisions that will prevent future problems

There are different ways to which one can react to a particular situation in any organization. The reactions may be due to different issues that tend to arise in the course of running the business. However, when there is a particular pattern of behavior that tends to reoccur, we  refer to it as system archetypes. These reoccurring patterns of behavior tend to have negative effects on the institution. (Kim, 1995)

There are three main common system archetypes in the FRS organization. These are; fixes that fail, shifting the burden, and limits of success. All these patterns may not look harmful to an institution at first; however, they have negative effects on the institution that reduce the overall performance of the organization. (Kim, 1995)

The fixes that fail pattern involve the process of solving a problem. A solution is developed to solve the symptoms of a particular problem. However, delay in the process results in a reinforcing loop taking place. The result is a cycle where one ends up repeatedly solving the same problem to no avail. It is not easy to identify this pattern in the initial stages but tends to be evident at a later time. The negative reinforcing loop is due to unexpected consequences taking place due to delay. To overcome this one is required to plan properly in advance before taking a particular action. Once a problem arises, the management should take the time to analyze all the sections and units that will be affected by a particular decision and develop solutions for the same beforehand. It will help to deal with any unexpected consequences that will ultimately solve the fixes that fail system. (Kim, 1994)

Shifting the burden applies where a short term and fundamental solution are developed for a given problem. As time passes by, the short term solution produces side effects that affect the operation of the fundamental solution. The fundamental solution is, therefore, not implemented which results in the problem reoccurring. Solving this system can be done by one ensuring that they address the real root of the problem. In most instances, the symptoms end up being addressed which automatically results in the problem reoccurring. (Kim, 1994)

The final system of archetypes is the limits of success. It refers to a when a particular principle in the organization results in increased performance. However, over time application of this principle reaches a constraint were further practice results to reduced performance. This archetype can be solved by identifying any reinforcing loop that will result in being a limiting factor. One this loop is identified; it should be eliminated before its effects are felt within the organization. (Kim, 1994)

Recommendations

Understanding how these systems archetypes occur and their effects in an organization will help the management make informed decisions that will prevent future problems.” The best defense is a good offense”. If the management is in a position to identify all the possible problems that may arise, it is better placed to deal with them and avoid any unexpected consequences. It will automatically smooth operations within the corporation. (Mitroff, 1997)

The knowledge of how systems archetypes work is, therefore, an important tool that will facilitate growth in various organizations including FRS Corporation. No institution would enjoy solving the same problems over and over again. Its therefore important for the management to be able to create or put up a system that is able to capture the small negavives loop that may arise and are easily neglected. This will help the organization to solve this problem in advance and avoid any chance of repitation of them in the future.
